Speeding Offences & The Blame Game | Driving Case Solicitors

Share

A former Police Officer whose 20 year career has come to end after a misconduct hearing earlier this year has now been sacked by Staffordshire Police. The case was opened following an investigation by the force which revealed the former officer had previously provided his father’s details for a speeding offence and his father had even attended a speed awareness course for his son.

To avoid a six month driving ban, the former police officer persuaded his father to pretend that he had been driving the car at the time of the offence. The Judge said “had it not of been for the fact that you got caught speeding again, you may well have got away with it.” The former police officer has now accepted Perverting the Course of Justice and has been handed a four month prison sentence.
In this instance the manner in which the original offence was handled led to a custodial sentence. This is one of many reported cases that have recently been highlighted by the media but many others exist and some involve high profile individuals. It is important that clients are offered the correct advice at an early stage and that such cases are dealt with properly and professionally.
