Share

Kangs Solicitors are defending a client charged, alongside others, of supplying DNP for human consumption, which the prosecution claims resulted in a person’s death.

Frances Murray of Kangs Solicitors comments on the on-going trial at Inner London Crown Court following an investigation by the Food Standards Agency.

What Is DNP? | Foods Standard Agency Defence Solicitors

2,4 dinitophenal, more commonly known as DNP, is an industrial chemical that has become a popular weight loss supplement amongst bodybuilders and those with eating disorders.

This product was historically used as a weight loss product in the 1930s, but resulted in a number of deaths and other health effects.

There have been at least sixty two reported deaths from DNP.  The chemical is not deemed suitable for human consumption.

The Allegations | Kangs Criminal Defence Team

The Prosecution alleges that the defendants set up various companies for the sale and supply of DNP via the internet thereby committing an offence contrary to Article 14 of Regulation (EC) 178/2002 and Regulation 19 of the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

The defendants are alleged to have caused the death of a person which is strongly denied by all defendants.

The defendants are charged with both gross negligence manslaughter and unlawful act manslaughter.

The trial continues.
