Drugs Importation | Success at Worcester Crown Court
Operation Wayfarer was a West Mercia Police Serious and Organised Crime Unit investigation into a multi-million pound enterprise to import and distribute controlled drugs from China and India into the UK.
The case specifically involved delivery addresses and false names being provided to the Chinese company, which facilitated 38 separate importations of Methylethylcathinone drugs, totalling 180kgs with a realisable street value of almost £4 million.
Our client pleaded not guilty to the importation offences. On day 2 of the trial at Worcester Crown Court following detailed discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service, we were able to obtain a favourable result for our client. The Crown Prosecution Service accepted a plea to a significantly lesser charge of Fraudulent Evasion of Duty.
The case concluded last week and our client received a community order and fine - a result that our client was extremely pleased with.
The case was conducted by Tim Thompson of Kangs Solicitors. Counsel instructed was Mark Harries of Carmelite Chambers.
